Are ducks tough?

Unlike old farm ducks of the past, Luv-a-Duck ducks are bred to be meaty and tender. Click onto our cook book to find out how to cook your Luv-a-Duck duck or portions to perfection.

Why are ducks so much bigger now?

Through selective breeding Luv-A-Duck are able to produce a duck that is bigger in size and with greater meat ratio to fat.

Are ducks fatty?

No. Once ducks are cooked properly, the duck fat will be cooked out. Expect a large quantity of duck fat in the pan. This can be saved for cooking the best roast potatoes in the world. Duck meat actually contains less fat then chicken meat.

How does the flavour of duck compare to chicken?

You can not compare duck to chicken. Duck has far superior flavour and texture.

Unlike frozen chicken, frozen duck can be thawed and cooked without any deteriation of quality or flavour. And unlike cold chicken, duck can be reheated and served as a prestige meal.

No it is illegal to produce foie gras in Australia. However Luv-a-Duck livers are plump and large and full of flavour.

What do ducks eat?

The ducks are fed on a special diet of natural grains.
The feed mix contains 50% of A grade wheat, with the balance made up of A grade barley, beans, peas, canola and other grains.
Ducks drink small quantities of clean water regularly throughout the day.

Where do the ducks live?

Ducks are housed in large, open sided enclosures with access to natural light and fresh air. They are protected from adverse weather conditions, and predators that include foxes, crows and magpies.
Trained stockmen take care of the duck's welfare ensuring that there is always food, water and clean litter.

Are they given hormones ?

Absolutely NO.
There are no growth hormones or antibiotics used in the production of duck in Australia. It is illegal.

Are the ducks halal?

All the ducks are processed Halal. Luv-a-Duck is accredited by ICCV, The Islamic Coordinating Council Victoria ( ICCV ).
This enables our duck to be exported to the Middle East, Asia and can be served on major airlines.

What breed of duck is it?

Strictly speaking it is a Luv-A-Duck duck because it has been bred to produce a high content of lean tender meat in ratio to fat and bone.
To look at it, it is a White Pekin duck.

Who owns Luv-a-Duck?

Luv-a-Duck is family owned and run Australian business and has been established for over 36 years. The farms and processing plant are situated in the sunny and spacious Wimmera wheatlands. Luv-a-Duck is a vertically intergraded company, including Egg Production, Breeding, Hatching, Growing, Processing, Marketing, Selling and Distribution.

Does duck have a gamey flavour?

No. Domestic duck is quite different to to the gamey flavour of wild duck. The domestic duck meat has the appearance of red meat and does not have a distinguishing aroma or strong taste to it.

Where do Luv-a-Duck ducks come from?

Nhill, in the sunny Victorian Wimmera region.
It is a rural, spacious, pollution free environment. All ducks are processed and value added in a healthy, safe and fully automated state of the art processing plant.

No. It is illegal to import duck or any sort of poultry into Australia.
